Most people outgrow their acne. Not me, I got it with a vengeance in college and then again after graduating and starting my own business and hiring employees and paying taxes and my health insurance and car insurance and rent and...... There are many causes for break outs in adults : stress, changes in hormonal levels ( menopause ) or stopping or starting birth control medication. Certain types of medication may also be the culprit.
The combination of dead skin, excess oil and dirt will clog pores allowing Propionbacteria living in your sebaceous glands to wreak havoc. Typically appearing on the jawline, chin and neck. Researches believe the biggest culprit to be hormonal fluctuation. Lifestyle, high and moderate stress, diet, PMS and pregnancy can increase cortisol levels. Cortisol , the Stress Hormone, breaks down as testosterone in your body forcing extra oil through pores.
So let me get this straight, stress causes acne, which causes more stress, which causes more acne which.....To nix those pesky blemishes it is imperative to not only keep hormones in check, but also follow the correct skin care protocol. To avoid any pigmentation the earlier acne is treated the better. Topical salicylic acid, AHA's, Retinol and benzoyl peroxide are highly effective acne busters. Regularly cleansing in the AM and PM is most helpful. Any chronic or cystic acne needs to be treated by a Dermatologist. The lesson here : to avoid or eliminate acne STAY ZEN !
